Flanders Fields Memorial Garden

The Flanders Fields Memorial Garden, within the Australian War Memorial’s Western Precinct, was dedicated on 4 April 2017. A ring of Portland Stone, inscribed with overlapping stanzas of John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”, encourages movement and reflection when experiencing the Memorial Garden.

Soil from Flanders, in which many soldiers found their resting place, has been combined with soils specially collected from significant sites around Australia. It is within this soil that poppies will continue to grow.
