The village is created to capture and celebrate the region’s stunning beauty; rich and diverse environment and culture. It will become the major visitor centre for the Whitsundays, fostering a vibrant, powerful and sustainable community where there is synergy amongst all users.
Ecological sustainability is fundamental to the planning, design, construction and operation of the Laguna Village centre. It will be a pedestrian‐only village in a parkland and coastal setting. No vehicles can enter the village other than bicycles and electric‐powered golf carts, although there will be adjacent car‐parking and coach access. The Village comprises 70 buildings including hotels, retail, civic, commercial and residential accommodation. The project was won by JPW through a national design competition.
