JPW was engaged by the South Australian Museum Foundation to develop a Masterplan for the Museum, focusing on improving visitor experience, providing additional exhibition space, and creating more opportunities for the institution to generate revenue.

By shifting perspectives, we were able see a solution of bringing the temporary exhibitions servicing from North Terrace, eliminating the need for significant engineering work of previous proposals. This strategy supported by Adelaide City Council, reduced the immediate project cost by $100M.

The concept encloses the existing courtyard to form a new entrance foyer and legible circulation, addressing the Museum’s current and future needs whilst respecting the original fabric with a proposal to expand that is aligned with the original design for the Museum which had always envisioned a central courtyard building.
